This Week’s Updates

Is it Fiction Files Friday already? TBH,  Loretta (@LaughingListener) and I have been super busy the past few weeks being “responsible adults”. And, since I’m a horrible person (READ: I spent all last Friday reading), I didn’t post an update. SO, you get double dosage of random to catch you up on all the weirdness that is The Fiction Files.

The Profiles

No surprise that everyone loved Rowan. Also, no surprise that Sebastian’s and Tamlin’s profiles make me laugh so hard. I can’t get enough of the d-bags!

This Week’s Updates

It’s Fiction Files Friday yet again!  Loretta (@LaughingListener) and I continued to highlight some of our favorite swoon-y characters for Valentine’s Day. Of course everyone loved Mr. Darcy but my personal fave was Emma Carstairs!

Review | Kingdom of Ash Put Me In a Major Book Hangover

Kingdom of Ash IMG_2914

By: Sarah J Maas

Overall Rating: ★★★★★

Aelin is in an iron coffin. Rowan is looking for his mate. Aedion and Lysandra are trying to hold off demon-soldier hoards. Dorian and Manon are off looking for some keys and witches. Chaol is off being an annoying d-bag per yoozh. Meanwhile Maeve and Erawan are just doing their thing, trying to take over the world.

How does this end? I will tell you…AMAZINGLY. It’s been almost a month and I have yet to get over this epic ending.

Theme Song

Stealing this from my Rowaelin playlist because I just think it fits SO WELL. Every relationship, every plot line, everything is just End Game.

The Good

Character Arcs

I didn’t think it was possible for me to love these characters more than I already did, but I guess war really does bring out the best in people. All the main players manage to grow and thrive, even through all the hardships. And, I can’t believe I’m going to say this…but even Chaol was great in his own way. He didn’t annoy me once and that’s a pretty big accomplishment since I’ve managed to hate him for 70% of the entire series.

The Downfalls

Does it make me evil that I actually enjoyed the fact that not everything in this story works out? War is being fought in every corner of the world and I don’t think I would have been as happy if everything was a-ok and the heroes always won. Sometimes bad things happen to good people and I’m perfectly okay with that.

The Feels

I had to stop reading at least 10 times to give myself a chance to recover from all the emotions. Even when happy things happened, I still found myself wanting to cry tears of joy. I hate hugging and showing any type of emotion…but SJM brought me to the brink of a nervous breakdown and I lived for it. If you live for having your heart ripped out and pieced back together multiple times, you’ll love this story.

The Bad

This Could Have Been Two Books

There were several major events that take place in this book, but there’s a point where things go from slowly, slooooowwllly progressing to much MUCH more urgent. 0 to 100 in less than 10 pages. I felt like I was reading two different stories. And, while I know the set up was important, there were a few places where this book could have stopped…and then started up again as a new book. I guess this is just me being selfish and wanting more?

The Ugly Truth

I LOVED THIS BOOK. It’s now mid-November and I still haven’t gotten over all my feels. I can’t read anything new because I’m still stuck in Terrasen with the Cadre and Aelin and I don’t mind it one bit. This might be up at the top of my favorite series endings right along with Deathly Hallows.

Talk To Me

Have you read this yet? If so, what did you think of it? Are you in a book hangover like me? Will it ever end?
