Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the amazing Bionic Book Worm!
Today’s Top 5 is all about fantasy stories and it was so hard for me to choose only five because 98% of what I read is considered fantasy – lol. Here’s my attempt at choosing my faves…but just know this changes on a monthly basis depending on what I’m reading!
The Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare
SURPRISE. The Shadowhunter Chronicles is of course on my list of all time favorite fantasy series. The world is rich, unique, and so amazing. Angels, demons, mundanes. Vampires, Werewolves, Faeries. Magic. Battles. Death.
Harry Potter by JK Rowling
I don’t care if Harry Potter has been around for decades. It will never get old. The Wizarding World just has a tendency to make me feel at home and I will not stop waiting for my letters to Hogwarts (Or Ilvermorny or Beauxbatons). My wand and school regalia are prepped and waiting for the day.
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
The Raven Cycle is urban fantasy, but I’m putting this on my list because I’m obsessed with the magical Virginia suburbs from this series. The main crew is dysfunctional, angsty, and full of pent up energy. They’re adapting this into a SyFy series and I literally can.not.wait.
The Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson
A doomed land, a magical prophecy, fierce lady heroes, swoon-tactic male leads. The world building in this entire series, as well as the spin-off books, is so rich and intense – and amazing. The first book is written in a very “whodunit/Clue” way, where you don’t know which character fits what role (prince or assassin?) and it’s UH-MAZE. Please read.
The Stormheart Series by Cora Carmack
So far only book one is out, but that first installment is filled with magical storms, hottie stormhunters, a runaway princess, and a very mysterious/eerie villain (like so creepy he lays with dead people for fun. WTF?) I can’t wait to read the sequel – it comes out August 2019!
Talk To Me
What did you think of my picks? Do we have any favorite fantasies in common? Any I should add to my list?
Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the amazing Bionic Book Worm!
Today’s Top 5 is probably my favorite topic so far. I get to talk about my Book Boyfriends in ALL their glory and you are not prepared for how hard I’m about to fangirl. Please be warned that you will see a lot of all caps and text screaming as I share my love for these fictional men.
Jace Herondale from The Shadowhunter Chronicles
In case you didn’t already know, the #1 LOML is Jace Herondale. He first shows up in The Mortal Instruments and makes appearances in all of Cassandra Clare’s later books. He’s a sarcastic, half-angel warrior and I’m obsessed. If I have a book boyfriend type it’s the self-sacrificing hero with maximum-level wit & humor. He is also a fellow Gryffindor and I approve. See below for more evidence that Jace is an amazing, magical warrior-angel.
Simon Randell from The Empirium Trilogy
Simon is a new addition to my favorite male leads list. He’s also my favorite Slytherin love. If you’re into moody, bossy heartbreakers who do whatever it takes to get their end game, you will love Simon. *Side note: I DIE for baby Simon. This series has some time travel involved and seeing Baby Simon transition to adult Simon GIVES ME LIFE.
Nik Malikov from The Illuminae Files
Introducing my Hufflepuff boyfriend, Nik Malikov. He’s meant to be the comedic relief in Gemina & Obsidio (those books get INTENSE) and his humor DOES SOMETHING TO ME. He is also part of a Russian Mob family and has tattoos galore and I’m here for that sort of thing. Everyone needs a Nik Malikov in their life.
Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses
Rhysand, High Lord of the Night Court. That is all. He is the definition of a feminist and will do anything to protect his family. He might need way more time to primp than I do, but I love him. He’s a great male lead.
Finian de Seel from Aurora Rising
I’m SO obsessed with Squad 312. It was hard for me not to cheat and do a 2-for-1 combo here with Tyler and Fin, and my heart told me that Fin was my main man. He’s an alien tech whiz with white-blonde hair and dashing wit. Yeah, he can be kinda annoying sometimes, but he is the Ravenclaw I want around!
Talk To Me
What did you think of my picks? Do we have any main males in common? Any boys you think I’d love?
The Identity Crisis Book Tag by Read By Dev. Check out what characters I’m most like from these best-selling series.
It’s time for another book tag! Loretta @ The Laughing Listener created her very own book tag and now I’m spreading it around, because who doesn’t want to know what characters they’re most like?
I’m was super hyped…but also scared, because I kept thinking “what if I get someone awful like Taryn (Cruel Prince) or Gale (*gags*).” I think I did pretty well for my Virgo/Gryffindor self. Check out my results and don’t forget to play along!
RULES:
Take all the quizzes down below and record your answers somehow. I decided to just copy the text from each quiz and paste it into my post, but screenshots work too! Whatever floats your goat (Yes goat. I SAID WHAT I SAID).
NO CHEATING. You get one shot to take each quiz my friends. I’m watching you. ∗Suspicious squinty eyes∗
Okay, so right off the bat I’m getting the MC Heroine and I guess I’m okay with that since CAL is def a thing for me. Mare can be kinda annoying, but I love her for it anyway.
YES I LOVE THIS COMBO SO MUCH. Charlotte is my FAVORITE character in The Infernal Devices. She is a badass QUEEN and she ran that institute like the boss lady she is. AND Mark is DEFINITELY THE BEST BLACKTHORN BROTHER (Don’t @ me). I’m not sure if people underestimate me? But I’m definitely the responsible mom of the friend group…did you remember to pack a sweater?
LOL. This is completely wrong. I can literally camp in the forest for a week with no showers, cell phone service, or TV and be completely okay with life. I’m also not flamboyant AT ALL. Buzzfeed, who put this quiz together? I have some questions. Other than that, I don’t mind Effie!
This is literally the first time I haven’t gotten Hermione on a Harry Potter character quiz and now I REALLY have questions for you, Buzzfeed! Dolores? Seriously?! I mean…I can be ruthless and bitchy, but I don’t like fluffy pink things? Def have to admit loving sweets but still, DOLORES? Side note: this description does not sound bad to me AT ALL. So yes to the description, NO to the character.
Okay, I am down with this answer for some strange reason? Buzzfeed Community members got it RIGHT. I am also short, with dark hair, and I do tend to act moody even with my family. So yeah besides the vain part I think this is pretty accurate. LOL.
The first part about being observant and keeping to myself is 100% ON. POINT. The rest of this is false. I AM loyal to those I love, but I’m not naive or gullible. I am probably the most skeptic person every. But I love Noah. He is a precious cinnamon roll and I don’t mind being like him in some way.
*Sorry friends, you don’t get a cute picture of Twilight because I don’t own these books. (Sorry, not sorry)
SAY IT. OUT LOUD. I’m like Edward? This is not me…at all. Other than people staying away from me I have absolutely nothing in common with him, but like cool I get to be a hottie vampire. That counts for something.
I mean, Jude isn’t the best Heroine of all time, but things could have been worse. I could have been Taryn. And nobody wants that. I am stubborn when it comes to my beliefs and decision making so I guess this makes sense?
I LOVE Thorne (and also Flynn Rider…heeeey, how you doin’) so I’m so okay with this. I don’t think it describes me at all. I thought for sure I would be Scarlet, but beggars can’t be choosers. And at least I’m not Kai.

Thanks to Jess from Fiction No Chaser for tagging me in this! Do yourself a favor and check out her blog. She’s snarky and amazing and full of spoiler-free reviews!
Answer as many or as few of the questions as you’d like.
Feel free to use any of the graphics in this post. 🙂
Tag however many people you’d like at the end!
You’re Not Sorry: A book that un-apologetically broke your heart
The ending still keeps me up at night.
Back to December: A book you still think about even after you are finished
Does Harry Potter count? Because I’m pretty sure I think about something Harry Potter related at least once a day.
If This Was a Movie: A book you really want to become a movie
I NEED THE ILLUMINAE FILES TO BE A THING STAT.
Gorgeous: A book with the most beautiful cover
The 10th Anniversary Edition of City of Bones will forever be the most amazing cover.
Shake it Off: A book that gets hate but you still love
The Red Queen series gets a lot of hate – for the characters, plot, etc. – but I love it!
Never Grow Up: A book that gives you childhood nostalgia
I started reading A Series of Unfortunate Events in elementary school and I haven’t been able to find anything better.
Sparks Fly: A book you instantly clicked with
Aurora Rising is a book I INSTANTLY fell in love with. Squad 312, Fin, Tyler, Auri, SPACE, aliens, humor. It’s totally my kind of book and I need the sequel ASAP.
Style: A classic that will never get old
The Picture of Dorian Gray is dark, moody, and I love it.
End Game: A book with romance you love
Mary E Pearson knows how to WRITE. I loved the entire Remnant Chronicles series and the romance weaved into it.
I Knew You Were Trouble: A book you couldn’t help but become obsessed with
The Raven Cycle series is one that I was instantly obsessed with. The characters, the magic, the atmosphere, the writing. It’s all so good.
Bad Blood: A book where you loved the first one and hated the sequel
I don’t think I have a series where the first book was amazing but I hated the second book, BUT I do have plenty of series where the first book was amazing and the second book didn’t live up to my expectations. One said series, Caraval. Legendary wasn’t as good as book 1 (though I still loved it).
Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the amazing Bionic Book Worm!
Today we’re talking the top books I could not put down. You are probably going to see a lot of familiar titles on this list, because I definitely rave about my favorites whenever I can (so they probably made some of the my other top 5 lists).
Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
The Illuminae Files is one of my favorite series is ALL TIME. It has crazy artificial intelligence, aliens, evil space corporations, and ALL the sassy characters. My favorite is the second in the series, Gemina. The stakes are high, Nik Malikov is the best, and did I mention the aliens?!
A Court of Mist & Fury by Sarah J Maas
A Court of Thorns and Roses is a solid 3-star book in my opinion, BUT the sequel is such an amazing book. There are unexpected twists & turns, hot faerie boys, and so much emotion. And did I mention the hot faerie boys?
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
Another series that I’m obsessed with. I couldn’t put down any of these books, but the first book is my favorite. Rich boarding school boys, feminist badass heroines, and tons of magic.
Roar by Cora Carmack
This series is about magical storms, a princess with epic powers, and a kingdom that needs saving. I’m SO excited for Rage and all I can think about is Prince Cassius, Aurora, and probably the most creepy villain I’ve ever encountered.
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
This series involves X-Men like storm powers, one of the WORST betrayals I’ve ever felt, and a monarchy that is just dying to be taken down. While the series has its ups & downs, the first book is amazing. I could not stop reading.
BONUS: Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare
If you know me, you know I cannot go one post without talking about something Shadowhunters-related. So, I’m adding a bonus section to talk about my love for all things Cassie Clare. There were so many to choose from, but I went with Lord of Shadows because it’s an EPIC sequel. I lie awake at night thinking about how my heart was ripped out of my chest at the end…
Talk To Me
What did you think of my picks? Do we have any of the same unputdownable books? Any I should consider?
Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the amazing Bionic Book Worm!
This week we’re talking the best fictional friendships and apparently I’m a sucker for a good team dynamic. I love a great group of friends that balance each other out – the sass machine, the leader, the rule-breaker, the softie. It’s like Breakfast Club in a bunch of different settings!
The Gangsey from The Raven Cycle
Richard Campbell Gansey III and his group of rich boy prep-school friends are life. If I were Blue, I’d want a group of Raven Boys all to myself, too. Gansey is the old-soul. Ronan is the rebel with a sailor’s mouth. Adam, the misfit with magic. And Noah, everyone’s favorite smol cinnamon roll. I need them in my life!
Emma Carstairs & Cristina Rosales from The Dark Artifices
Emma and Cristina are my definition of friend goals. Cristina is definitely the mom of the crew – always level-headed and reminding you to bring a jacket. She balances out Emma’s sassy, fiery ways and they always have each other’s backs. Who wouldn’t want to be one-half of a badass, demon-hunting duo?
The Inner Circle from A Court of Thorns & Roses
If you say you don’t like Cassian, Azriel, Mor or Amren it’s probably because you haven’t read this entire series. They’re ancient warrior beings who also have snowball fights, get drunk together, and have some serious issues they need to take care of. But, I wouldn’t have them any other way. Sign me up to be part of the crew
Beta Team from The Kingmaker Chronicles
Who wouldn’t want to be friends with a bunch of hottie, sass-machine soldiers? Carver, Kato, Flynn and Griffin are loyal, fierce, funny, and would die for the ones they love. And did I mention that they’re all hotties with bodies? Because, that’s an important thing to remember.
The Fab Five from The Remnant Chronicles
The “Fab Five” is the unofficial name I’ve dubbed Rafe and his band of special-ops soldiers – Sven, Orrin, Tavish, and Jeb. They hunt, cook, tell stories, love some fine- linen-crafted shirts, and can kill a man using just their hands. They risk their lives to save Rafe and Lia all while stealing my heart and making me want to be part of the team.

What did you think of my picks? Do we have any of the same fave friendships? Any that I should be reading about ASAP?
GUUUYYYSSS, Fiction No Chaser tagged me in the Song Requests challenge and I’m so excited for this. I already add theme songs to all my book reviews and I create bookish playlists, because I am also that nerd who hears a song and thinks “OMG this is so [Insert Character Name Here]”. I hope you like my song & book picks!
Listen to tagger’s song requests! After you’re done listening to the three songs the person who tagged you has chosen, choose a book that you think best goes along with that song and tell us why you chose it!
Request 3 songs of your own! Give any three songs (and your corresponding book choices that think go well with said song) you want for your taggers to listen and respond to!

Fiction No Chaser’s Songs:
1.”Longshot” by Catfish and the Bottlemen
This is DEF Ronan and Adam and has The Raven King written all over it. I looooove this.
Go, ahead and tell me you got all you want Fiver says you’re wrong And I suppose you’ve come down to help me Move things along
And we lapped it up and we’re wise enough to know How it goes to get me honey But we’re wise enough to know How it goes to get me honey ‘Cause we know this feeling all a little too well
Listen, the distance between us, could’ve took a while Once we closed that difference, you turned up like a friend of mine Every once in a while, the little things make me smile As if one of our longshots paid off
2. “Here’s to the Heartache” by Nothing More
This song is so dark and emo and reminds me of Cat and Cole from This Mortal Coil.
What if I told you life was built to break?
What if I warned you, you can’t outrun your fate?
So here’s to the heartache
Here’s to the mistakes
We’ll drink to all the years, the tears
That led to this place
So here’s to the heartache
Here’s to the dark days
It’s been a long wait
We’ll drink to all the years, the tears
That led to this place
3. “Lydia” by Highly Suspect
This is Marjorie singing to Merry in A Head Full of Ghosts. This book is so sick and twisted and it matched the vibes of this song so well.
Black ocean, cold and dark I am the hungry shark, fast and merciless
I’ve seen better days
So unafraid in my youth
I can’t breathe, much less believe the truth
My muscles will contract, your bones will crack
It’s just a fact cause I am here to win this fight
My Songs
1. “This Is Gospel” by Panic! At the Disco
This song will forever remind me of the Shadowhunter world.
This is gospel for the fallen ones Locked away in permanent slumber Assembling their philosophies From pieces of broken memories
The gnashing teeth and criminal tongues conspire against the odds But they haven’t seen the best of us yet
If you love me let me go If you love me let me go
‘Cause these words are knives that often leave scars The fear of falling apart And truth be told, I never was yours
2. “Love Like Revenge” by Bad Suns
This song reminds me of Ash Princess and the relationship between Theo and Soren.
I swallow all my fear, it’s clear to me There’s no good in lies I want to believe
I know, you know, how bad we both need this Trust me, we can put the past behind us Meet me at the place where love once found us But no
You wear your love like revenge You wear your love like revenge
Swallow all your fear and try to see There’s no good in lies you want to believe Am I happy, no, I’m just distracted
3. “Ain’t No Rest For the Wicked” by Cage the Elephant
Even though it’s not my favorite series, I do enjoy the heists and cons in the Six of Crows duology, and this song is definitely a MOOD for both books.
Oh there ain’t no rest for the wicked Money don’t grow on trees I got bills to pay, I got mouths to feed There ain’t nothing in this world for free Oh no, I can’t slow down, I can’t hold back Though you know, I wish I could Oh no there ain’t no rest for the wicked Until we close our eyes for good
Friends I’m Tagging!
If you’re tagged, I hope you enjoy! If you don’t want to work this into your schedule, no biggie. If you’re not tagged, and you want to join in, feel free! Just tag me if you use my picks so I can read your post and fall in love with your music!
It’s time for the first ever Fiction Files Friday weekly update! Loretta (@LaughingListener) and I did an entire series based on The Raven Cycle Characters. Ronan blew up on Tumblr and apparently everyone secretly loves Adam…who knew?
Check out some highlights below and don’t forget to follow our pages for more!
The Profiles
I only pulled a handful of my favorites to highlight here – you definitely don’t want to miss out on the rest!
Social Media
Here are links to all our accounts. Come hang with us – we love making new bookish friends!
So, Loretta (@LaughingListener) and I have some exciting news! We created a new brand – The Fiction Files. It all started when we jokingly began sending each other fake profile blurbs for our favorite characters one night and were digitally rolling on the floor laughing together. We had an epiphany moment where we both (on different sides of the country) stared into the darkness and a lightbulb turned on – “what if other people might get a kick out of them too.” Thus, the idea for Fiction Files was born.
If you’re into things like, let’s say, fictional character Tinder accounts, Spotify playlists, and generally anything a character would have or do if they were actually real people (like we just assume they are) come join us! We’ll be on our blogs every Friday with news, but you can follow our pages – links are below.
We hope you have as much fun with our content as we have creating it. We’re obviously too invested in our book boyfriends and it shows, but hey – we’re owning it.
Here are links to all our accounts. Come hang with us – we love making new bookish friends!
And as a sneak peek into what’s to come, here’s our first post – a tribute to everyone’s second favorite (Ronan FTW) Raven Boy!
IF YOU ARE: In need of a rich, adorable cinnamon roll who obsesses over dead kings and spiritually wounded friends. Vintage cars a plus, but not necessary. Glasses are a bonus. Must smell of mint.

How excited are you for more Fiction Files? Any fandoms you want to see us bring to life? Let me know in the comments!
Here we are, weeks later, and the entire #Gangsey has their own personal playlists. I save the best for last though – Blue! She’s my feminist spirit animal. She’s weird, stubborn, and independent and her music speaks to that.
The Breakdown
Blue obviously listens to girl power music of the alternative and oldies persuasion, but like her broken Raven Boys rule, she secretly has some GRL pop songs mixed in (because no one can resist Beyonce).
Just a Girl, No Doubt
Every girl has a phase in their life where they listen to No Doubt/Just a Girl on repeat for longer than they want to admit. It’s an anthem.
Notable Lyrics: “Cause I’m just a girl I’d rather not be ‘Cause they won’t let me drive Late at night. Oh I’m just a girl. Guess I’m some kind of freak. ‘Cause they all sit and stare”
RESPECT, Aretha Franklin
Are you even an independent lady if you don’t rock out to Aretha Franklin? Blue isn’t one to listen to conventional music, but Aretha is the OG queen and is classic enough to be weird but also trendy at the same time, so it works.
Notable Lyrics: “All I’m askin’ is for a little respect”
Confident, Demi Lovato
Blue would die if someone caught her listening to this song, but it’s her guilty pleasure (just like hanging out with her Raven Boys and pretending to fake fight with Henry in front of school so no one would know *lol*).
Notable Lyrics: “What’s wrong with being confident?”
