Stormlings | A Stormheart Playlist

If you haven’t started The Stormheart series yet, you should! I’m getting so hyped for the release of Rage (book 2) and just finished a re-read of book 1, Roar, so decided to create a playlist for Aurora and all the different storms they face throughout the series. If you could be any type of weather, what would you be? What song would you use to describe yourself?

The Breakdown

I decided to pull together songs that reminded me of certain characters like Aurora, our princess turned storm hunter, but also songs that just gave of a “stormy” vibe. Check out some of my faves below, and why I chose them!

Come Clean, Hilary Duff

This song definitely screams Aurora at the beginning of Roar. She’s naive, secluded, and just wants to start fresh away from her mom and all the expectations that have been set for her. 

Notable Lyrics: “Let the rain fall down, and wake my dreams
Let it wash away my sanity. ‘Cause I wanna feel the thunder. I wanna scream
Let the rain fall down. I’m coming clean”

Thunder, Imagine Dragons

This song reminds me of the entire storm hunter crew that Aurora joins, but especially Locke. They all dream of bigger and better things, and use their powers to get what they want. Also, it’s a song about being like thunder, so if that doesn’t fit the bill, I don’t know what does.

Notable Lyrics: “I was dreaming of bigger things
And wanna leave my own life behind…
I was lightning before the thunder”

Roar, Kary Perry

If there ever was a theme song for Roar, it’s this. She goes from damsel to outright fighter/survivor by the end of book 1. And she is back and ready to fight for her kingdom.

Dancing through the fire
‘Cause I am a champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar”

Mare Barrow | A Red Queen Playlist

It’s been awhile since I’ve visited the Red Queen world so I thought I’d share my one and only (for now) playlist I have from the world. I compiled some songs for Mare because she’s the snobby, flawed heroine I love to roll my eyes at.

The Breakdown

Obvi all my picks have something to do with being ⚡electric⚡. Here are a few of my faves!

Electric Feel, MGMT

Mare can make lightning, and she is helping to change the world. Everyone should want her electric feel!

Body Electric, Lana Del Ray

This song has such a dark vibe, just like the series and honestly I just love the way it flows with the story.

Electric Bird, Sia

A shoutout to Maven and Mare and the first two books. Poor Mare is an Electric caged bird.

Feyre Darling | A Court of Thorns & Roses Playlist

I created my Feyre playlist literally a year ago while I was obsessively binge-reading the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I also just realized I hadn’t shared it as a blog post yet, so here we are. There be spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned.

The Breakdown

Feyre has one of my favorite come-up stories. She was beaten so low and works her way to a lighter, happier place. Here are some of the picks that remind me of her and her journey.

Pompeii, Bastille

For when Feyre finally breaks under the mountain…and then again when she breaks from being locked up in the Spring Court.

Rise Up, Andra Day

Just picture Rhys singing this to Feyre and trying to bring her out of the darkness…and weep with me.

Patience, Bad Suns

Feyre will always have to live with the traumatizing events that she went through, but she manages to turn those things into part of her strength and not let it define her. Like SJM says…there are good days and there are bad days. Don’t let the hard days win.

Notable Lyrics: “I’m approaching a breakthrough. I’m happy now. Though, satisfaction comes and goes. While the saddest facts, they cling like shadows”

A Six Of Crows Playlist

By now I’m sure everyone has heard the news – the Grishaverse is coming to Netflix! I’ll admit, I haven’t read the original Shadow & Bone trilogy (Yes, I’m one of those people…but I’m getting around to it!). I have read the Six of Crows duology. And, while it isn’t my favorite series of all time, the heist badass-ery did deserve a playlist. I thought I’d share to keep up with the hype/wait!

The Breakdown

The epic heist situations in this series deserved a playlist that was just as epic. Here are some of my favorites!

Another One Bites The Dust, Queen

The book opens with a gang meetup gone wrong…and shooting ensues. How can you not picture Kaz walking down a dark alley with this playing behind him? The answer: you can’t. Because it was MADE for him.

Notable Lyrics: “Are you happy, are you satisfied?  How long can you stand the heat? Out of the doorway the bullets rip to the sound of the beat”

Jailbreak, Thin Lizzy

This is the theme song for the entire series. They break into places, out of places, and all the other things you can break and it’s just so perfect.

Notable Lyrics: “Tonight there’s gonna be a jailbreak. Somewhere in this town. See me and the boys we don’t like it. So were getting up and going down”

How You Like Me Now, The Heavy

All the main characters in the crew have some bad reps. And you see them evolve as the story progresses as they find new meanings to live and new reasons why they’re doing what they’re doing. It’s also an angsty, rock song that goes with the dark vibes.

Notable Lyrics: “See, I been a bad bad bad bad man. And I’m in deep, yeah.
I found a brand new love for this man, And can’t wait till you see.”

Blue Sargent | A Raven Cycle Playlist

Here we are, weeks later, and the entire #Gangsey has their own personal playlists. I save the best for last though – Blue! She’s my feminist spirit animal. She’s weird, stubborn, and independent and her music speaks to that.

The Breakdown

Blue obviously listens to girl power music of the alternative and oldies persuasion, but like her broken Raven Boys rule, she secretly has some GRL pop songs mixed in (because no one can resist Beyonce).

Just a Girl, No Doubt

Every girl has a phase in their life where they listen to No Doubt/Just a Girl on repeat for longer than they want to admit. It’s an anthem. 

Notable Lyrics: “Cause I’m just a girl I’d rather not be ‘Cause they won’t let me drive Late at night. Oh I’m just a girl. Guess I’m some kind of freak. ‘Cause they all sit and stare”

RESPECT, Aretha Franklin

Are you even an independent lady if you don’t rock out to Aretha Franklin? Blue isn’t one to listen to conventional music, but Aretha is the OG queen and is classic enough to be weird but also trendy at the same time, so it works.

Notable Lyrics: “All I’m askin’ is for a little respect”

Confident, Demi Lovato

Blue would die if someone caught her listening to this song, but it’s her guilty pleasure (just like hanging out with her Raven Boys and pretending to fake fight with Henry in front of school so no one would know *lol*).

Adam Parrish | A Raven Cycle Playlist

Surprise – here’s another Raven Boys playlist! Okay, it’s not really a surprise because everyone knows I’m obsessed. Per the title, I’m featuring music that reminds me of everyone’s favorite emotionally unstable magician! Adam was actually kind of hard to put together. I SCOURED the books for any clue as to what kind of music he likes…but for some reason I came up with ZERO INTEL. Please share with me if you have the valuable knowledge I seek.

Anywho, I decided Adam would listen to good ol’ fashion Southern/Classic Rock. He likes songs that speak to his troubled soul. He wants to leave his old life behind, but for some reason can’t find the strength to stray too far from his Henrietta, Virginia roots.

The Breakdown

Once I figured out what music spoke to Adam’s soul, it was easy to find my top picks. Check ’em out!

(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, The Rolling Stones

For most of the series Adam has trouble being happy with literally everything. School, work, Blue, Ronan, life in general. He can’t get a break!

Should I Stay or Should I Go, The Clash

This is so Adam on multiple levels. Book One: Does he stay at home with his abusive father or put his pride aside and leave with Gansey? Book Two: Does he stay normal or become a magician for Cabeswater? Book Three/Four: Does he stay with Ronan or leave him behind. IT’S THEE PERFECT SONG.

Notable Lyrics: “Should I stay or should I go now? If I go, there will be trouble. And if I stay it will be double.”

Under Pressure, Queen & David Bowie

Okay, if the last song wasn’t the perfect song, this one definitely is. He’s always under pressure – keeping up with school, making enough money (for school), trying to keep everyone happy (so he can get through school). Adam’s Pressure = the limit does not exist.

Notable Lyrics: “Pressure pushing down on me. Pressing down on you, no man ask for.”
